What is Botox®?

Botox® is a specific brand name of a natural, purified protein that temporarily relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles, creating smooth and rejuvenated skin. It has been used in the cosmetic industry for over 20 years, in over 70 countries. We only use the original FDA approved brand of Botox®.

Botox® injections are used to weaken some of the muscles that pull on your skin and cause wrinkles. Between 7 to 14 days after treatment, the lines and wrinkles that are normally caused by certain facial expressions start to smooth out.

Because treatment with Botox® injections target specific, individual muscles, the ability to form most facial expressions should not be affected.

What is Botox® used for?

We use Botox® on men and women to treat the following:

  • Lines and Wrinkles
  • Spasms due to some neurological disorders
  • Excessive Sweating
  • Migraine / Tension Headaches

Am I suitable for Botox®?

Botox® can be used on a wide range of people. However, you should disclose any existing medical conditions at your consultation, including any neuromuscular disorders.

Treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Does Botox® hurt?

This treatment is largely pain free aside from the mild discomfort associated with the small needle at injection sites

How many treatments will I need?

Botox® is a temporary treatment with results lasting 3 – 6 months. Results last longer for underarm excessive sweating treatment at 6 – 12 months.

Cost

The cost of Botox® depends on the number of units used. As an example, treating frown lines between the eyes takes approximately 24 units, at an estimated cost of $528.

Dr Safari will confirm the total cost of your treatment at your consultation.

Technical information

Botox® is the original product on the market and places a large emphasis on safety. It is the result of years of studies and is used extensively in medicine. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first cleared this particular brand of botulinum toxin in 1989, making it the first approved form of wrinkle injection in the world to target fine lines and wrinkles.

Choosing the right practitioner and right product is crucial. You may find luring deals that offer wrinkle injections for seemingly incredible prices, but we would encourage those seeking treatment not to fall into this trap. It is possibly an untrained practitioner performing the treatments, or they are not using the products that are advertised.

Botox® is a branded form of botulinum toxin. Many mistake the brand as a general term for the treatment, which is simply not the case. For this same reason, many practitioners falsely claim that they use the branded product.

Not only do you need to feel comfortable with your practitioner on a personal level, you also need to make sure that you feel confident in their abilities, skill and knowledge. We always advise prospective clients to do their research and form educated decisions.

BOTOX® is a prescription medicine containing 100 units of clostridium botulinium type A toxin complex for injection. It is used for the treatment of severe frown lines associated ‘crow’s feet’ around the eyes and wrinkle removal. It should be administered only by trained medical professionals.
