What is Intense Pulsed Light for Hair Removal?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) applies light energy to the skin which is absorbed by the hair follicle pigment, melanin. This causes the pigment to heat up, which kills both the hair shaft and the follicle from which new hair would grow to replace it. We only use Quantum IPL by Lumenis which is powerful, yet incredibly safe.

This technique can be used to safely remove hair from any area of the body, including the face, with minimal risk of side effects such as blistering or scarring.

The treatments are very effective for hair removal and results can often be seen immediately.

Am I suitable?

IPL is most effective on clients with darker hair and fairer skin tones.

How do I prepare for IPL Hair Removal treatment?

To increase the effectiveness of the IPL treatment, you should shave or trim the hair on the day of each session. You should not pluck, wax or bleach the hair, as this will not leave enough pigmented hair for the IPL to work on.

You are advised not to have treatment if you skin is tanned, if you have used a self-tanning lotion or had a spray tan within 6 weeks of your treatment.

What should I expect at my treatment appointment?

A topical anesthetic cream will be applied to the treatment area 30 minutes prior to appointment to numb the area.

Before your treatment starts, a thin layer of gel will be applied to the skin to aid the transmission of the light pulses. This also soothes and cools the skin.

During the treatment, you may feel a mild to moderate level of discomfort (it feels like a stinging or flicking sensation) from the bursts of light. Panadol (pain relief) can be provided for you to take after treatment to reduce stinging.

How many treatments will I require?

Since treatment only affects hair in the growth phase, multiple sessions will be required to complete treatment. The number of treatments required depends on the area to be treated. As an example, hair removal from the face typically requires 6 - 10 sessions every 6 - 12 weeks. Nonetheless, you may see results after the first session, with improving results with every session thereafter. After you complete the series of treatments, you will experience permanent hair reduction.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma for Hair Loss?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical procedure for hair regrowth. It is most effective in treating thinning hair and slowing or stopping the progression of hair loss.

Platelets are a naturally occurring component of your own blood and play an important role in wound healing and tissue regeneration. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is the process of isolating platelets from your own blood and concentrating these platelets to much higher levels than normal, through the process of centrifugation. The result is PRP which encourages the growth of existing hair follicles, making your hair appear fuller and healthier without resorting to surgery. It is one of the most natural ways to stimulate hair growth.

Am I suitable?

PRP is not suitable for clients that are undergoing cancer treatment or are taking blood thinners. It is suitable for most other clients. However, Dr. Safari will discuss your full medical history and medications at your consultation and advise if there are any contraindications.

What should I expect at my treatment appointment?

At your appointment, blood will be taken from you by Dr. Safari, just like in a regular blood test. The blood is put into a centrifugal machine for 8 – 10 minutes and spun. This separates the blood, allowing the platelet rich plasma to be collected.

The treatment area will be numbed with a local anesthetic before the concentrated platelet rich plasma is injected. The procedure takes around 1 hour.

What happens after the treatment?

After treatment, you can immediately return to your normal daily routing. However, we would ask you to take care for 2 days after your treatment

How many treatments will I require?

The number of treatments varies by person. However, for the majority of clients, a course of 3 treatments 2 - 4 weeks apart is appropriate. Top up appointments are recommended for maintenance of thicker, fuller hair.

Cost

Individual treatments cost $650, with a course of 3 treatments costing $1950
